Nail the Interview With these Tips

Nailing the perfect internship doesn’t come naturally for most.  It takes a lot of preparation and hard work but with several pointers that preparation and hard work can be made a little easier.

When you receive an interview request research, research, research and research the company.  When you think you’re done researching, research a little more.  You want to know everything there is to know about the company.  What does the company do? How many locations are there? What is the philosophy behind the company? Is the company private or public? Etc.

Make sure you know where your interview is going to be.  If you are unsure of the area do a test drive to guarantee you know where you’re going.  You don’t want to show up late to your interview or even come in a frazzled mess because you got lost.

Wear the appropriate attire for the interview and your profession.  You want to look clean and put together.  This means lay your outfit out the night before.   Make sure everything is clean and ironed, your hair is tamed, not too much cologne or perfume and easy on the makeup.  Show them you are serious about the available job position.

Sit on the edge of your seat during the interview.  Look alive and energetic, smile.

When asked if you have any questions, ALWAYS have a question!  Prepare a question in advance incase you don’t come up with one during the interview.

Send TIMELY follow-up thank you notes.  Share something personal from the experience.  Use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation (no email- personal letter on stationery) are very important.  These should always be written in a formal style.  This is a good way to showcase your written communication skills.

This list of helpful pointers will make that nerve wrecking interview fun!  It will be a time to showcase your talent.  Prepare yourself, go in with a positive attitude and the position will be yours!  Good Luck!
