Greek Life

What kind of Greek will you be?

Starting a new school and beginning a new phase of your life can seem a bit overwhelming to majority of college students.  Along with the new found freedom comes the occasional feelings of homesickness, loneliness and anxiety.  Greek life is a great option to help subdue all of those unwelcome feelings.

Fraternities and Sororities can sometimes have the image of simply being an exclusive group that parties all the time.  In reality Greek life presents the opportunity to bond with men/ women through helping the community, participating in events on campus and forming lifelong relationships.  Become a member of the sisterhood/ brotherhood and you are a member for life.  Greek life values academics, work and friendship all while getting the most out of college and having fun.  The brotherhood/ sisterhood becomes your family away from family.

To become a member of Greek life on your campus you will participate in a process often called “rush week”.  This time period has events and activities planned for the potential members to learn about each other and the organization.  At the end of rush week, “bid day” will take place.  Bid day is when members extend ‘bids’ or invitations to pledges.  It is a mutual process, so the pledge has the option of either accepting or declining the bid.  Following bid day will be a period of “pledgeship” before full membership is extended.  After the completion of pledgeship, pledges will be invited to initiation, which often includes secret ceremonies and rituals.

Greek life presents wonderful opportunities but be prepared to set aside time for meetings, community involvement etc.
