“What you gonna do with all that junk?”
“What you gonna do with all that junk? All that junk inside your trunk?” –Clearly the Black Eyed Peas know how to get organized, with a trunk of course!
Moving into the dorms or some other type of campus housing for the first time can become somewhat a nightmare. Chances are you are trying to consolidate everything from a bedroom probably 3 or 4 times the size and mostly likely roommate free, into a room about the size of a closet. Don’t procrastinate saying you’ll eventually get around to the organization- you just want to get settled first- it’ll NEVER happen! It is extremely important that you start out keeping your dorm organized and neat. Before you know it the exams and projects will start flowing and you won’t have time to look for your calculus notes in the piles and piles of clutter laying around your room at 3am the morning of your exam. Or that Friday night is going to come rolling around and you will find your favorite shirt balled up in the corner of your closet- and there goes your perfect outfit for supposedly the party of the year! Don’t let this be you!
Consolidating and organizing doesn’t have to be awful or ugly, it can actually be stylish and headache free! There are a couple different ways to organize all of your clutter. You could follow the Black Eyed Peas’ lead and invest in a stylish yet practical trunk for all your ‘junk’ or you can find clear containers to slide under your bed and then use a bed skirt to hide the storage containers. Either option will provide satisfaction, it’s whether you’re looking for something that can double in practicality or you just want the clutter gone.
Going with the first option; a trunk can hold everything from clothing and shoes to books and magazines. Trunks are sturdy enough to withstand a little weight which means they can then double as a nightstand along side your bed or a coffee table for the dorm room. Trunks add a nice touch to the typical dorm furniture, giving the room a homier feel. Don’t waste any time, start getting organized in the dorm!
If you are someone that just wants things hidden from sight then the second option most likely will be your preference. First invest in some clear storage containers. They can hold the same things as the trunks but are slender enough to fit under the bed, hidden from view. To guarantee there is nothing poking out, invest in a twin xl bedskirt. A bedskirt attaches to the bottom of your bed and hangs to the floor making sure to hide any of the clear storage containers. Bedskirts too add a personal touch to your dorm room.
Get a move on the organization before you are buried alive in all your junk!
