Sugar Rush: Plan Your Own Dessert Party

Who can resist the sugary charms of a dessert party? With your favorite candy, plenty of chocolate, delicious drinks and possibly even a chocolate fountain, how could you possibly go wrong? A dessert party for you and your friends can be as formal or informal as you'd like and doesn't require much beyond the great desserts you and your friends buy or prepare.

Food
Clearly the star of the dessert party is the food selection. You can use some of the great recipes on our Food and Drink section to whip up some tasty treats, or hit the bakery and candy aisles of your local super market. For a center piece that will truly take the cake, consider getting your very own chocolate fountain. These fountains of molten chocolate are great for dipping everything from fruit to cookies to pound cake. You can rent them from party stores or find them starting at $25.

Drinks
For some truly delicious drinks that don't require too much preparation, check out some of the recipes below:

Chocolate Covered Cherry Jello Shots
1 cup creme de cacao
4 oz package cherry jello
1 cup hot water

Get the water boiling in the microwave then dissolve the jello into the water. Let cool to room temperature then add the creme de cacao. Pour the mixture into plastic shot glasses or ice cube molds and chill for at least four hours. Serve chilled.

Candy Apple
Sparkling apple cider
Butterscotch schnapps

Serve your guests cups of sparking apple cider and add about half of a shot of butterscotch schnapps to each glass for a delicious candy apple flavor.

Pink Cotton Candy
1 oz vodka
1 oz amaretto almond liquor
Pink lemonade

This unique drink looks as good as it tastes. Mix ingredients together for a delicious cotton candy cocktail.

Decorations and Costumes
While the real fun of this party comes from the great food and drinks you provide, you can still create great decorations or encourage your friends to come in costumes. Use the classic board game Candyland as your inspiration and create a candy cane forest (using red and white streamers, twisted together, taped to the ceiling and draped to the floor) or a ice cream float sea (with white and pink balloons). You can also wrap balloons with cellophane and tie each end to create giant hard candies to decorate the room.

The Dessert Party is sure to be a hit with just some chocolate, music and friends or you can go all out with candy everywhere. Have you had a dessert party? Tell us about your experience using the comment box below!
