Campus Golf is Par for the Course

Spring is here, the snows are finally melting (or you're starting to to melt if you're farther south or west) and the last thing you want to do on the weekend is stay inside or, worse yet, get stuck doing homework. It's time to polish off those golf clubs, dig up some old tennis balls, grab a campus map and start a round of campus golf.

When the weather is nice, instead of watching a movie, staying indoors or even just chilling on the green, it can be much more fun to get active and campus golf is a low-key way to enjoy the sun. Using your campus map (or knowledge of your college campus), mark nine different "holes." These should be objects placed around campus such as a park bench, a certain tree, a statue, or lamp post. Generally it's not recommended to choose holes that might move (administrators, cars, or temporary displays). Pick your starting point and start swinging!

Move the tennis ball around campus with your golf swings in order to hit the "holes." A hit counts as sinking the shot. It is highly recommended that you do NOT use actually golf balls as the likelihood of destroying school property is much greater. Consider marking your tennis ball with your name so there isn't any confusion as the game is played, and try to keep your teams to four players or fewer.

Campus golf is a relaxed way to get moving around and outside. You can play for lowest score and try to hit each hole using the fewest swings, or you can play for speed - which is always more amusing to watch - with no limit to swings but the goal of hitting each hole the most quickly. Either way, just get out into the sun... your dorm room can wait until Monday.
